Hindmarsh Cemetery

Today my daughter and I wandered through the Hindmarsh cemetery, located not far from home actually and one we pass at least once a week... I wanted to explore this particular cemetery due to the suggestion that it was haunted by a female ghost who wanders along the main path holding a lamp... Now, I'm not so certain ghosts would want to haunt cemeteries, sure, it's where their physical remains are buried but aren't ghost supposed to haunt where they died or suffered tragically or were so attached to a physical place they can't leave, even in death?
Personally I find cemeteries a peaceful place to visit, and today, even though the Hindmarsh cemetery is so close to South Road whilst in there, the traffic noise didn't bother us, in fact, it wasn't until I viewed the video I took that I realized how noisy the cemetery actually was.
As for the ghost? We didn't see or sense her...but if there is indeed a ghost, perhaps she is the guardian of the children and babies buried here, or maybe a guide for wayward spirits?
There were a few head stones my daughter and I were drawn to, I cannot explain why, perhaps a soul/spirit connection? Let's just say it's an interesting question to take away with us from today's visit. :)

The suburb, Hindmarsh was the first town built on private land in South Australian, land once belonging to Sir John Hindmarsh, South Australia's first Govenor, in 1838
The Hindmarsh cemetery was established in either 1839 or 1846, there's some discrepancy. We did find the first burial monument, however and it was dated 1846 (see You Tube video)
Here is an article written about the cemetery

The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 - 1929) Wednesday 24 November 1926 p 9 Article ... 'HINDMARSH CEMETERY. ' Since its. establishment about 1839 the Hindmarsh Cemetery has been controlled by a trust. As a result of negotiations between the' trust and the local council, the local council have finalized arrangements to take control of the cemetery. ..

Sturt's cottage: The Grange

The family home of Captain Charles Sturt, a pioneer and famous explorer of Australia.
Born in India, in 1795... Died Cheltenham, England, 1869
The house, built in 1840 for the Sturt family, was one of the earliest brick homes in the district. It was constructed in two stages. The red brick portion was completed first and housed the main living areas while the white stuccoed section known as the nursery wing afforded a bedroom for his sons (3) and kitchen/laundry areas for the household.
It has been said that the spirit of Captain Charles Sturt still visits his old, South Australian home from time to time and with each visit comes the scent of white roses. He is said to visit the study and dressing room.
Unfortunately, we did not have the pleasure of his company today during our visit to the cottage. There were the mandatory squeaky floor boards and the musty odour of age (no roses) that naturally comes from old furniture and furnishings, (the furniture within the house was donated by the Sturt family and originally belonged to Captain and Lady Sturt) but sadly no ghost, at least none that I was aware of?
However, in my humble opinion, if there were to be a sprit that visits this quaint cottage it would be Sturt's daughter, "Missy" Charlotte Eyre Sturt, who was born at the Grange in 1843 and whom, after returning to England with her parents in 1853 yearned to return to her 'home' in South Australia. Perhaps it is her spirit that has indeed 'returned' to haunt The Grange?

Ghosts & Orbs

Definition.
noun
the soul of a dead person, a disembodied spirit imagined, usually as a vague, shadowy or evanescent form, as wandering among or haunting living persons.

I'm not certain if my search for ghosts will actually prove the existence of ghosts but I will go into each "haunted" location with an open mind and respect for whatever I might find.
It is also a possibility that I will capture orbs during my investigations, as the one that was caught here on film below.

This is a photo of an orb captured by my daughter at a concert, 29.6.2011
If you look closely right in the middle, you can make out a woman's face and upper shoulders.

Orbs are believed (by many) to be ghosts in the form of balls of light. They are life forms that travel in groups and are believed to be the human soul or life force of those that once inhabited a physical body here on earth. Psychics claim to talk to them on a regular basis, and ghost hunters encounter them quite frequently. It is said that they are those spirits that have willingly stayed behind because they feel bound to their previous life or previous location for whatever reason. Ghostly orbs are the most photographed anomalies caught on film by ghost hunters and are quite photogenic (when they want to be). They can be completely transparent or display themselves in a bright solid form. It is not hard to capture them on film in their circular form. It is theorized that ghosts prefer the form of an Orb (ball of light) because it takes less energy thus being the mode of choice among the ghosts. The consensus is that small orbs take up the least amount of energy and apparitions and other fuller shapes take up the most.
